What are the absolute essential/cool things to do for fun on a trip to Minneapolis, MN?

I will be there for a conference from October 2nd-6th with a co-worker and we are both laid back, enjoy new experiences, like to drink (socially), and are in the 30-35 year old range. We aren’t fans of the really loud dance clubs/bars, but do enjoy small quaint cultural pubs/hideouts with live performers and/or friendly crowds. Also interested in any outdoor and/or physical activities that could be suggested.

    I am from minneapolis,the mall of america is the biggest mall in the us..If youre afraid of driving there you can instead take a shuttle or a bus from the hotel,also if youre a sports fan you can check out a viking game downtown or a basketball game at the target center…Minneapolis has a great variety of eating places so if you would like to try something new I would suggest there…lots of excitement downtown heavy patrolled by police and security because of the college(75,000 students)safe to walk and party a little…

    hi;
    I wouldn’t waste too much time at the megamall if I were you. Downtown Mpls has alot to offer and they have quite a few of those smaller type bars with local entertainment. Look online at http://www.startribune.com in the entertainment section and that should tell you who is where. I would go by Block E (new by Target Center) there are bars there. I would check out the Mill City stuff and the brand new Guthrie Theatre which is on the Mississippi river. For outdoor activities, check out the lakes. There are great paths around Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles. It is the place to be seen exercising. And it is near Uptown which is another different fun area of the cities. Need more info, feel free to email, I will help look.

    Don’t forget to get a picture of yourself with the Mary Tyler Moore Statue at 7th and Nicollet. It’s even better when you look up her skirt. ;-)

    In advance, welcome to Minnesota–the Twin Cities and especially Minneapolis!

    First off, wish I could predict the weather—it will either be glorious or rainy and cold…October is a weird and wacky month. If it is nice, I strongly suggest a visit to one of the city lakes for a walk–Lake Harriet will be the best people watching and more scenic.

    I have a link for you to the local free weekly newspaper so you can start going through the local places and see what might be happening when you’re here. The first link is their home page and the annual manual is a list of the places voted to be the BEST! On the annual manual page you’ll find an INDEX–a list of everything you might want to do….you shouldn’t be bored!!

    Have fun!
